JOB OFFERS: 15 positions of Fellow in Artificial Intelligence (M/F)

at PSL University funded by IA-Cluster PR[AI]RIE-PSAI

Working environment and context

PSL (Paris Sciences & Lettres) is a global university that brings together all areas of knowledge and creativity in the sciences, economics and social sciences, humanities, engineering and the arts. It comprises eleven institutions: Collège de France, Conservatoire National Supérieur d’Art Dramatique – PSL, Dauphine – PSL, École nationale des chartes – PSL, École nationale supérieure de Chimie de Paris – PSL, École normale supérieure – PSL, École Pratique des Hautes Études – PSL, ESPCI Paris – PSL, Institut Curie, Mines Paris – PSL, Observatoire de Paris – PSL. It is supported by three research organizations: CNRS, Inria and Inserm.
It has its own foundation, the Fondation PSL. Its community (2,900 teaching and research staff and 17,000 students in initial and continuing training) makes the most of the potential of its 140 laboratories to build major structuring projects, as well as national and international academic and industrial partnerships. Selective and committed to equal opportunity, PSL is a public university that chooses its students for their talent, and trains them as closely as possible to the research carried out in its laboratories. It turns them into citizens aware of individual, social and environmental responsibility.
PSL is one of the world’s top 50 universities (Shanghai, Times Higher Education, QS, CWUR). It is also a winner of the French government’s investment program for the future (PIA).

Funded to the tune of 75 M€, the PR[AI]RIE Paris School of AI (PR[AI]RIE-PSAI), a project led by Université PSL in partnership with Université Paris Cité, CNRS, Inria and Institut Pasteur, has the highest budget in the French “IA Cluster” program, aimed at consolidating research, training and innovation clusters in artificial intelligence in France.
As part of this program, Université PSL is recruiting 15 Fellows in Artificial Intelligence to take up their positions on September 1, 2025. These positions are intended for young researchers in artificial intelligence who wish to pursue a high-level research career, while at the same time investing in teaching assignments and the development of original courses.

Missions

Teaching

The range of courses offered by the Paris School of AI at PSL University, as part of the PR[AI]RIE-PSAI Cluster, covers all levels from bachelor to doctorate for AI specialists and non-specialists (AI+X) in initial and continuing education. Teaching is in French or English, depending on the course. The people recruited will mainly be involved in the following courses: International Bachelor of Science in AI ;

  • Double Licence IA et science des organisations (Double Bachelor’s degree in AI and organizational science) ;
  • CPES Sciences des données, Art et Culture (Data Science, Art and Culture) ;
  • Master IASD (Master in AI and Data Science) ;
  • Master IA et Société (AI and Society) ;
  • Programme transverse Data (Transverse program in Data Science).

The people recruited will need to be able to adapt to a wide range of students and teach in AI. Most of the teaching required concerns the “core of AI”:

  • from introduction to machine learning to advanced statistical learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, …
  • natural language processing, computer vision, data science, …

More specialized profiles are also in demand:

  • AI for science: teaching the use of AI for different scientific disciplines to non-specialists;
  • computational social sciences:
    • fundamental concepts and theories of the social sciences,
    • basic principles of human behavior and decision-making,
    • social change and cultural dynamics,
    • public policy implementation and evaluation,
    • causal inference methods (e.g. regression discontinuity, difference-in-difference, instrumental variables, randomized controlled trials)
  • ethics, governance and regulation:
    • ethics of AI and algorithmic decision-making,
    • justice, fairness and bias in AI systems,
    • regulation and governance of AI, including global policy frameworks,
    • societal impact of AI, with a focus on economic, cultural and political implications.

The teaching emphasis is on both theoretical foundations and practical applications.
The expected service is 80 hours of lectures per year (NB: corresponding to time in front of students).

Research

PSL offers an exceptional environment for research in data science and artificial intelligence. Joining PSL University means taking part in a research dynamic of the highest international level, whether in the core fields of AI (mathematics or computer science) or in application fields (physics, astrophysics, chemistry, life sciences, cognitive sciences, social sciences and humanities, etc.).

The research activities of those recruited will have to fit in with the activities of PRAIRIE-PSAI within PSL, so candidates are invited to put forward suggestions for insertion in existing PR[AI]RIE-PSAI research groups. A letter of support from a team willing to welcome the candidate is a plus but is not obligatory.

Jury members may also make suggestions to candidates.
